, the American Red Cross visited Albert Harris students to talk about home and fire safety.
Students heard about what to do in the event of a fire, the importance of having at least one working smoke alarm in their home, and even learned a handy breathing technique to help them calm down in situations that make them nervous or afraid.
Younger students left their sessions with copies of a Prepare with Pedro coloring book to help remind them of the lessons they learned that day, while older students learned about packing a pillowcase emergency kit and will soon have a Red Cross pillowcase of their own with which to create their own home emergency kit!
The Red Cross offers free smoke alarm installation for some households. More information is available here: https://www.redcross.org/local/virginia/about-us/our-work/home-fire-campaign/smoke-alarm-request.html

🐬 Students in Mrs. Bragg's class at AHES have been studying habitats. On Friday, they added sea turtles, stingrays, seahorses, dolphins, and more to the ocean scene they are creating outside of their classroom.
🐙 Students took care to make sure they placed their sea creatures into their proper habitats in the underwater world- seahorses into the seaweed, crabs in the sand 🦀, and all sorts of floaty, fishy friends in the water! 🐠 🐋
MCPS families,
Please remember that MCPS will dismiss students 2 hours early on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for parent-teacher conferences. Thank you!
