Principal's Welcome

Dear Albert Harris Elementary School Students, Families, and Community Members,

Welcome to Albert Harris Elementary School, Home of the Wildcats! It is with great honor and excitement to have the opportunity to serve as Principal of AHES. My passion for educating and supporting all students' success has been shaped over many years of serving the Martinsville City Public School System: as an elementary teacher, a business and computer technology teacher, and assistant principal. Serving in each capacity has strengthened my resolve to ensure every student's success by providing the best instructional practices and support for learning.

With the safety of students, faculty, and staff, Martinsville City School Board Members and Superintendent Dr. Zebedee Talley have decided to continue the 2022-2023 school year with in-person student learning. We are excited to have our students back in classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. Safety precautions will be exercised throughout our school building, and sanitizing efforts will be practiced. Our faculty and staff will continue utilizing the best educational strategies. Instructional methodologies will include teaching an aligned curriculum using Haggerty, LETRS, and West Virginia Phonemic Awareness programs. AHES will apply AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) strategies, providing computerized instruction using the canvas platform and using gradual released math and science manipulative lessons. School counselors will provide SEL lessons for students adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the demands and complexities of the COVID-19 crisis resurface, it becomes more evident that we all need to work together to ensure that our children reach their fullest potential. I believe that the school and the community must collaborate as an extended family to ensure all students succeed. Furthermore, it's everyone's responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful and responsible.

Again, welcome to Albert Harris Elementary School and our beautiful learning community, a place alive with a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and high standards of excellence! I am anxiously anticipating our students returning safely to school! Let's have an AWESOME new school year as we work and learn together through this pandemic!

With Wildcat Pride,

Renee Brown
